Barnsley Council – URBACT TechTown Action Planning Network
Alison was Lead Expert for the URBACT TechTown Action Planning Network. She supported 10 medium sized cities from across the EU to come together and exchange experience on what they can do to grow jobs in the digital economy. Alison’s role was to develop and facilitate meaningful international meetings, to support the cities to co create effective Integrated Action Plans which focus on digital job creation and to document the findings through a series of podcasts and a digital toolkit.
Alison initially got involved in 2015 when she supported Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council with the development of a project, partnership and funding application for TechTown under the new URBACT III Programme.
The project was one of 21 approved in the first call and kicked off in September 2015. It explores how small and medium sized cities across the EU can maximise the job creation potential of the digital economy. It examines whether there is potential for spillover from stronger city level digital economies and how clusters can work at city level and looks collaboratively at what cities can do to support businesses to access the digital skills and innovations they need in order to start, grow and compete.

“Working with Alison on TechTown is a delight. She brings a wealth of experience, master facilitation skills and importantly a sense of fun to her Lead Expert role, all of which are key to the success of TechTown’s transnational partner network. Alison is one of the most professional, organised and reliable people I know and I would be very pleased to work with her on future projects”.
